From explosive tap numbers, dashing leading men, and frisky flappers, the spring musical isn’t exactly what we would call “modern.” If you love jazz, this play will take you back to the 1920’s in New York where jazz was at its height. These amazing attributes will all be show cased in this production Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is an exciting upbeat play about a young girl named Millie Dillmount from Kansas, who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her plan was to be a secretary for a wealthy man and soon enough marry him! But, her plans soon go askew. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East; her wealthy boss is slow in proposing to her and the man she actually loves doesn’t have a dime to save his life….. or so he says. What’s a small town girl supposed to do?

When Mr. Hubbard was asked why he chose this play he professed, “I chose this play due to a number of factors. Mainly though, because we have a ton of talented women in this school and this play had a lot of female roles. I also chose this play because it is different. It’s set in the 1920’s, there is great tap dancing thanks to Andrea, and I thought the music was great. The best part about doing a play every year is seeing the kids take over and run the show for themselves. Then I can sit back and simply enjoy.” With all the tap dancing numbers this play is perfect for cast members who wants to show off their sweet moves, especially with the amazing choreography done by Andrea Holyoak! Through all the commotion Caitlyn Mickleson was asked what the best part about doing play and, her response was anything but modern, “What I absolutely love about the play are the moments when everything comes together! It is so exciting when we, as a cast, get into character. But the very best times of the play are when everyone is behind the curtains goofing around and getting hyped for their next scene.” Play seems to always have a blast and the excitement can definitely be heard from Makell Pitcher as she expresses her thoughts on her first year in play by saying, “I love play so far! I love hanging with my friends and just having a good time. When we learned the dance to the song, “Speed Test”, Andrea could not say floor wax to save her life! It was really funny.”

Cheer on and support the Grace High School drama club and see Thoroughly Modern Millie. This high energy, tap dancing, awesome play will be showed on April 28th, April 29th, and May 1st. So come and enjoy an amazing play that can be described as anything but “modern.”
