Have you had a class with Mr. Hubbard yet? If so, you will know that he is, what’s the word, unique? This strange character has been working at our high school for six years now. He graduated from this our school in 2003. Mr. Hubbard says that the same year he graduated, the boys basketball team took state. He also says that the team couldn’t have won without him… and his trumpet playing skills.

Can you believe that our Mr. Hubbard, who is outgoing, loud, and slightly obnoxious, used to be a shy kid who loved fantasy? I know that last one is hard to believe. But it’s true. Your science teacher used to love “Star Wars”. Although, I don’t think that has changed much over the past couple of years.

Mr. Hubbard was not the outgoing type. He preferred to read fantasy novels and do anything that did not draw attention to himself. However, he was forced to participate in drama and music, thanks to his mother. He says that by the time he was a junior, he finally got enough courage to ask girls out on dates, which we all know can be scary.

After graduating high school, Mr. Hubbard left our small town of Grace and went to school. Now the big question is, what major would our fantasy loving teacher choose? Well, the answer is Ecology.

It was the closest thing to farming I could get to without actually farming.”

— Mr. Hubbard

It’s hard to believe the Mr. Hubbard would not want to farm because it is one of the few things he loves to do. He thought he wouldn’t want the stress of farming. But, he decided to change his major to Entomology. You may be asking yourself, “What is Entomology?” Well, Entomology is the study of bugs… Um GROSS! I don’t think I would like to study bugs all day, but to each his own. It took Mr. E four years to get his bachelors degree and three more years to get his masters degree.

About a year into college, Mr. Hubbard married Velvet Titcomb. Many of you may recognize her name. She too graduated from Grace High. Velvet and Mr. Hubbard currently have four children. He says that his first child paid for his schooling; they got a lot of grants from his son’s birth. After his schooling, Mr. Hubbard came back to his hometown of Grace to farm and teach.

We couldn’t be happier to have Mr. Hubbard teach in Grace. He loves his students and is not afraid to show his true self!
