Mrs. Newbry, our amazing secretary, has quite the story to tell. Her family has moved around several times while she was young, resulting in attending three different high schools. She lived in Florida while a freshman in high school, and after that, her family got up and moved to Taipei, Tawain! While there, Mrs. Newbry was a model for the First Company Limited! She says, “That was back when it was a respectable publication about fashion, hair, and makeup.” Mrs. Newbry also participated on the International Teen Board of Seventeen Magazines! All the while, she still attended high school faithfully for two years. Then, her family moved across the globe again-to Hawaii! She finished her senior year in the city of Oahu. She graduated from Waipahu High School along with almost 300 others!

Although Mrs. Newbry has had many jobs as diverse as the places she has lived in, including a lifeguard and a swim instructor, she says that her favorite job by far has been a mother and grandma! She also loves the beauty and peace of the valley. However, it did not start out as an instant love. She says, “I was raised in cities…when I married… we settled in Grace, there were times I thought I would go insane! Now, after nearly 40 years, the solitude of the valley is one of my very favorite things!” Although she is content here, Mrs. Newbry would still love to travel to Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and most definitely Hawaii. Actually, she would love to go anywhere in the world…except Alaska! Mrs. Newbry only likes the warm and sunny places.

She loves the faculty and student body at Grace High, but sometimes the kids get mischievous. Mrs. Newbry tells this story, “Several years ago a student checked his friend out of school by forging his friend’s mother’s signature on a note. Some friend he turned out to be! The kid’s mother had passed away the year before, I was clever enough to know that it probably wasn’t her signature.”

Whatever the situation, whenever the day, Mrs. Newbry has faithfully worked at Grace High School for 17 years and plans to do so for several more. Thank you Mrs. Newbry for all you do! Everyone loves you and we appreciate all the time you spend at the school!
